GF issues an urgent call for a strong anti-racist statement from GUSD

Join us at the GUSD Board Meeting on Mon., Feb. 28

A few weeks ago we issued an urgent call for GUSD to stand firm against racism in our schools after the Sandburg incident, and the petition garnered over 500 signatures (thank you!). On Thursday, Feb. 10, GF's Board met with Superintendent DeLeon and Trustee Elizabeth Reuter. We asked the Board to consider the following:

  • A strong statement condemning the recent Sandburg incident and all forms of racism at GUSD schools.

  • A requirement that all racist incidents on individual campuses be reported to the district to facilitate uniform handling across Glendora. This will enable school administrators and the greater community to gain a better sense of the extent of racist actions and/or sentiments on our campuses so that mitigation efforts can be more effectively targeted.

  • The publication of disciplinary flowcharts on the GUSD district website that give basic guidelines on how various disciplinary situations will be handled, to improve transparency in all disciplinary matters, ensuring parents and administrators are aware of what to expect.

  • The publication of a primer on the GUSD district website with up-to-date legal guidance on the district’s ability to involve itself in cases of bullying via social media where all involved parties are students at our schools.

We walked away with a commitment from the district to issue a strongly worded anti-racist statement at the Feb. 28 board meeting, and we expect them to share some updates related to other initiatives.

Please join us, in-person!

Let's show up and express our support for anti-racist and inclusive initiatives in our schools.

GF will arrive at 6:30pm. Meeting begins at 7pm.
