Our kids cannot afford a Cory Ellenson recall

Efforts to recall GUSD board member Cory Ellenson are underway, and only 1400 signatures in Ellenson's trustee area are needed by March 8th to force a recall election. Certain interest groups have been leveraging GUSD's misstep with the Sandburg social media racist incident as a reason to launch another recall effort of Ellenson (their fourth attempt this year), collecting signatures outside local stores and parks.

GF sees these two as unrelated, and does NOT support a recall for the following reasons:

  • GUSD doesn’t have an election recall budget, so GUSD would have to pay $250,000 to hold the special recall election – this dollar amount would come out of their general budget used to educate our children

  • If approved, the special election would be held in August, just three months before the regularly scheduled election

  • Contrary to what some may believe, GUSD doesn't receive as much funding as other districts. Our students depend on this money for their education!

To be clear, it just doesn't make good sense, and would negatively impact our children and their futures, our teachers, and our community.
