School board meeting update

We’re happy to report that following a racist incident at Sandburg, and our collective efforts as a community (i.e. meeting with the board as groups and individuals, signing and sharing petitions), Superintendent DeLeon read a public statement at the school board meeting on Monday, February 28, 2022.

As part of this statement they announced that they will be hiring Dr. Judy White, former Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, to lead a listening tour “to inform our work moving forward as we plan for our Every Child Initiative. The Every Child Initiative will focus on ensuring every single child has the supports and resources needed to thrive and eventually graduate from our schools fully college and career ready.”

You can read the full statement below:
Joint Statement of the Superintendent and Board of Education

We know we have a lot of work to do, but feel this is a step in the right direction. We will continue to support and advocate for continued diversity education and restorative efforts at GSUD.
