Who is the ‘Our’ in ‘Save Our Schools’? It’s not who you think

Is “Save Our Schools” just a Glendora-only group? Not at all.

There are many groups like the Glendora one that have been organized across the country, and several national groups are using parents' fears and lack of understanding of the issues to tear apart our schools.

Have you ever heard of Heritage Action for America and Citizens Renewing America? No?

These are just two of the larger national groups that are investing resources and money to train local parents and traveling activists to bring the culture wars to our local school boards. They have developed the whole “Save Our Schools” campaign and even provide groups with toolkits, talking points, and tactics aimed at “restoring and taking back their schools.”

(Don’t just take our word for it. Go ahead and google “Heritage Action for America” or” Citizens Renewing America” and see for yourself.)

It is clear that the Glendora group is closely following what these organizations want. They are disrupting school board meetings, trying to get rid of board members, intimidating our educators who are trying to teach that we live in a diverse nation, and creating petitions to ban the use of certain words and the teaching of race and racism. (What will be next? Banning any mention of the Holocaust or the Civil Rights Movement?)

Now, they’re rallying against LGBTQ+ rights under the guise of “Parental Rights”- a resolution they wanted GUSD to adopt that requires teachers and staff to forcibly out possible LGBTQ+ students in 3 days. However, in January California passed a law bans school rules requiring teachers and other staff to disclose a student's gender identity or sexual orientation to any other person without the child's permission.

Proponents of the legislation, including Glendora Forward, a majority of the current Board, numerous Glendora families and residents know this will help protect LGBTQ students who live in unwelcoming households. Numerous residents attended the August 14, 2023 Board meeting to express their concern in adopting resolutions like this, and as a result, the current Board listened and voted NO against this harmful proposed resolution.

However SGS and their candidates are still pushing for this overreach in our public schools. Watch the video for yourself here of numerous Glendorans, including parents, students, counselors, mental health professionals, and teachers, opposing this resolution in public comments.

So readers, please remember: Glendora’s “Save Our Schools” group belongs to a larger national agenda to keep our students from understanding what social justice and inclusion are all about, and to rally against LGBTQ+ rights.

In fact, “social justice” and “inclusion” are two words on a long list that they don’t want our Glendora teachers to use in the classroom anymore.

That is scary.

Save Schools

Save Glendora Schools is part of a conservative, national coordinated effort aimed at censorship in public schools.

What is even scarier, if they succeed in electing their chosen candidates this fall to the GUSD school board, this could happen. That’s what Heritage Action for America, Citizens Renewing America, and others want.

This is why Glendora Forward was created. We want to inform the public so that they can make decisions that benefit everyone. We want people to take this November's school board elections seriously.

Most of all, we don't want big organizations to use groups like Glendora SOS to interfere with our public schools and the lives of our students. Join us and vote this November so we can stop these organizations from interfering with the way public school is supposed to be taught.

If they get their way, one thing is certain: They are going to harm our schools, not save them. Save Glendora Schools has endorsed Michael Munoz and Dr. Dan Cayem, as well as former school board candidate turned city council hopeful Shaunna Elias for Glendora City Council (Elias ran for Glendora School Board and lost to Monica Garcia a few years ago. Now, Shaunna Elias is running for Glendora City Council, and she is endorsed by far-right Chino Valley School District Board President Sonja Shaw)— we need to make sure they aren’t elected.
